this is my first attempt at recording idm music in the style of 'boards of canada'.
i used:
protools 7
kontakt 2
sonik synth 2
absynth 3
its not that the drums are stiff, they are faster than your guitar part throughout the intro.
sounds like you are using your general pc midi when you could run it through something like battery and have a much better result!
there are issues throughout but i don't mind cause the synth parts...
hello, i'm new to the boards :D
here's a new one i tracked last night. haven't put the vocals down yet. takes about a minute to get going.
i've listened to it too many times to have any perspective, so what do you think?

not bad.
the vocals go flat here and there so i would recut them, one line at a time, sounding best as you can.
as i said in another thread, for metal you need a snare that eats your face. try giving it more high end and mic'ing it on the bottom.
that sounds pretty good. a little flat on the high notes. did you use an effect for the doubled part? try just doing a second take and you'll get a fuller 80s metallica style vocal.
your voice sounds good in parts but other parts you're getting a little worn out. how many cuts did you do? this...
not bad. snare really needs improvement.
for any sort of metal you need a snare sound that eats your face. otherwise it sounds impotent. (yes, impotent)
try playing with the highs and mic'ing it from the bottom next time.
cut the highs in the cymbals and raise them in the guitars, you will...
i wonder if the english thing was a joke.
was this a live recording?
like the others said, the kick is nearly non-existent.
with guitars downtuned that much, you're going to want more high end.
did you record this with any specific software?
my strongest advice would be to multi-track it to...
last i checked, there was a demo version of sonik synth ii available.
personally, an essential for vocals is any version of antares autotune. even the pros use it.
ps: have more faith in protools, it is the best
