How to Prevent Guitar Track from getting Exhausting/Boring

I can understand people not liking a flavour of music straight out. I think we're all hard wired with a palette as to what our brains can enjoy.

I really hate the sound of Red Hot Chilli Peppers, the sound of that guy's voice makes me want to stick knitting needles into his vocal chords...or my ears.

I find the most important thing for me is that whoever I'm listening to, A) Isn't annoying, B) Has balls, and B) Isn't a sell out. If they have these 3 qualities I'm in.

Bruce Springsteen, by the by, totally grossed me out as a kid, and that song 'Born in the USA'. Fuck him.

sorry ..... all of that is wrong.

I don't care if you like him or not and I'm certainly not upset by it nor am I evangelistic about getting people to like him ... I'm indifferent.

But every single thing you said in this post is incorrect and bears no resemblance to what Hendrix did or what his music is like.

A rare case of the Gerg being in a different universe than reality.

:laughings:

Nope, not wrong, not mesmerized or blinded by wanky slop either. :laughings:

"Hey Greg.....where you going with that gun in your hand?"

"I'm gonna shoot down Jimi's sloppy playing...he's just a wanker in a blues band"

Nice.

and some more words to get past the reply police.

Never really got into Hendrix... my loss I guess. Wrong time, wrong place for me.

Springsteen has (ever fewer as he ages) spots of good in amongst mountains of dreck - I quite like some of the earlier stuff in the way it paints America (remembering I'm not one) in a not dissimilar way to Tom Waits.... spoke to my romantic notions of the place as a callow yoof, probably. These days I find him (and anyone else who plays with lots of enthusiasm and energy and emotion but little songwriting skill) to be as dull as ditchwater. The Rising was the last straw for me. Seriously dude, go back to Noo Joisy and learn some noo chords.

Beatles... again, too early for me to be into them much ... they picked the low hanging fruit of pop but did it well. I can listen to them but don't think I'm missing out if I don't hear anything from year to year. I don't think I've ever listened to an entire Beatles album though... just hit collections. I like good pop but found a lot of theirs a bit prissy...

YMMV;)

Isn't Born in the USA a protest song about the Vietnam War? I don't know the lyrics, s'just what I've heard?

to be clear (although I think I was already clear but I wanna be sure) ... taste in music is sorta like taste in food or women or anything else.
Even the person whose taste it is can't really determine why they like or don't like a particular music .... they just do.

For instance ...... why do I hate coffee? Because it tastes nasty ...... but why do I dislike a flavor that an overwhelming number of other people like?
Who knows? ...... I just do.
To me the taste is nasty but any further explanation beyond that is beyond me.
Same thing with most other likes and dislikes ...... you just do.

So my push back against greg has nothing to do with trying to convince him of anything or trying to get him to like Hendrix. He couldn't like Hendrix if he tried first off ... and secondly among the things that matter to me, whether or not someone else likes a particular artist isn't one of them.

My pushback is simply against the things that are factually wrong.
LOTS of music Hendrix did was fairly fast (although granted, Greg's idea of fast means 90% of the music out there is slow) and he did NOT play sloppy on his studio albums ..... period.

My friend greg can come back and say to him it was slow and sloppy all he wants to ..... it's factually incorrect.

It's not factually incorrect though. What is "fairly fast"? That's not measurable. None of this is fact. We're all just talking opinions here. Your idea of fast/slow and sloppy/tight is obviously different from mine. That's no problem. I hear Hendrix music as sloppy slowpoked wank slop.

One man's sloppy is another man's style. While that may sound like a cliche' I think there is some fact in that. Not all the best players are the best in technique or even good players for that fact.

you hear it that way ...... that doesn't mean it IS that way. His studio work is performed without slop regardless of how you 'hear' it.
And yes .... fairly fast is measurable ... both in tempo and compared to the other music in the world.

You're entitled to your prejudices but that doesn't make them factually correct.

And say what you will ..... I expect you're not familiar with much of his catalog and base your opinion on just a few songs.

Sorta like I mistakenly did with the Ramones.

I'm out though ..... I can waste my time in more productive ways.
:)

Lt boob, you're saying the exact same thing I am, but from the other side. You're presenting what you hear an undeniable fact though, and that just isn't so. I apologize if my comments were interpreted as fact. The "in my opinion" was always implied. I didn't think I actually had to type it out.

I'm not prejudiced about hendrix any more than you are about coffee. I don't dislike him because of his skin color or clothes. I simply don't like his music, just like you don't like coffee. I hear hendrix as junk just like you taste coffee as nasty. Lol. I'm not telling you're wrong for not liking it. If you said "coffee tastes like shit water mixed with nutmeg". I wouldn't say "no way, you're factually wrong because there is actually no nutmeg in the shit water". That's crazy! I couldn't care less why you don't like coffee. I don't know why you care about this. What does it matter how I base my opinion? I don't like hendrix music. I don't have to know every note of every song he's ever played. It sounds like sloppy shit to me. So what? I'm wrong because you disagree? That's silly. You're better than that dude.

So what is "fairly fast"?

Slop doesn't bother me if it's done in a style of music that I like and/or the player isn't heralded as some god. I really like Johnny Thunders. He's about as loose and sloppy as it gets. He was a junkie that could barely play and he's dead as shit too. I like his music. I like his songs. I like his bands. Playing perfection and virtuosity means exactly jack shit to me......unless, again, the sloppy ass player is put on some pedestal. Then I'm like wtf?

Flight of the Bumble Bee. That is pretty fast. Usually played around 200+ BPM.

Lol. That's the song all of the shred wankers use to set speed records on guitars.

Funny bit true, I found many Youtube Vids of people playing this on guitar. An it looks like your description is correct. Oh, :guitar:

I love this version:

That's my kind of guitar wanking. :)

And I love those guitars!

You have to really appreciate the playing there. No effects, guitars, amps, drummer and it looks like one microphone in the middle. You have to tip your hat to this kind of playing. At least from a purest perspective.
