Tiny Stonehenge Moment
Has anyone else seen this up close? It looks fantastic, but over a Grand (1000) GBP seems a lot for what is essentially a new guitar got up to look old - and the majority of them won't even be left-handed. ;) The aging has been done superbly - I haven't had a chance to play it through an amp yet, but I'm going to have a go on Saturday. On the other hand, aren't replicas like this a bit wank? The Fender "road-worn" series just seems retarded to me, and 800 GBP for a "Joe Strummer" Telecaster with its rusty bridge, worn-off car-spray overpainting and optional sticker set seems like an insult to me. What price individuality, eh?

I played one just last weekend. Totally gay and nothing to get excited about. Wait, I played the Mustang. I didn't see a Cobain Jag.

I think the Strummer tele is neat because I totally love Joe Strummer, but it really does look like a piece of shit and I hate Teles.

Tribute guitars are incredibly stupid.

That's not to say I wouldn't grab up an AFD LP for a great price, but that's because of the flame top and not the gay signature on the headstock.

You know what's fucked up? I also saw a "Mick Jones" LP Custom and got all excited. Cuz you know, Mick Jones used LP's in The Clash. Then I was informed that it was for some dude named Mick Jones from the suckass band Foreigner and I threw up my mouth a little.

Supercreep rocks an Avril Lavigne Squire Tele.

I bought a Jeff Beck Strat last year as my only axe,
because it is what kept coming up when I would input the specs of hardware that I was looking for.
I've never been that into Jeff Beck, but I watched a couple recent videos and he has some real finesse.
I think the road worn are pretty gimicky, but I got a '65 strat when I was 12 and sold it at 35.
At that point it would have made one of these one new road worn strats look pretty good.

The thing is, I totally "get" the Jaguar. The guitar was an individual's instrument in the first place, kind of a left-field choice. I always wanted one years ago because Robert Smith (of the Gay-assed Cure) used one on the early albums and I really liked it. You hardly ever see oddities like those outside of Denmark Street in London. :D I think I'm falling for it and I totally don't have the money. The patina is just so well-done I can't describe it, and I think I have a pretty good eye for fakery.

I think Jags are awesome guitars. I love them. They're on my short list of "one-of-these-days" guitars. I wouldn't get no sig or worn model though. Get you a new one and wear it out yourself.

:laughings: The Squier brand are actually bringing some decent models back into the game. Presumably because the totally budget end is completely swamped by offerings from China. I played some excellent Squier Strats today, the Black-and-maple '70s Strat with the big headstock, in particular.

I had one of those. It played nice enough, but the pickups were awful. I lumped it in with some cash and bought a cab.

If you really wanna get away with it, wear skinny jeans and stuff it up your ass! :D

You could get the Squier headstock, throw the rest away and make your own guitar.
I was in a punk band with this guy.

Right - I didn't play it through an amp. It had some kind of Seymour Duncan replicas in it - it was billed as a "70s modified Strat". I have to say, the neck was spot-on for the era - somewhat chunky for a strat, totally unlike my 80s Squier (70s replica) which has a lovely slim neck.

I've pretty much given up on Strats. I never liked them. I just like the one I have. A 91 Mexican Fender Strat. It's like it was made for me. I had a USA Strat and hated it. Hated the Squire. Hated all the Strat copies I've had. I like my one lowly Mexican Strat and that's it.

That would be an option if I was twenty. I've only got a few good years in which to age it, now - unless I bury it in the compost heap for three years, like the replica "Rory Gallagher" Strat.

:D

Okay pops, then get you a new one and keep it looking great so you can re-sell it when the arthritis kicks in. :D

I think Strats are awesome! :p

That and a Les Paul are all I want.

I've got a 91 mexican strat that I love, and haven't found any others that really did it for me.
