"I wanna rock, I wanna roooollllll...........!!".....don't we all, bro??:D
Jesus, where do I start to comment on this??
Greg's hymn to rock'n roll and a fitting one to boot. I think that musically this has to be the most accomplished track I've heard from you. Loads of influences, plenty of corners and moods. That snare of yours is a real killer, you must have discovered just the right spot to mic it or something. I especially liked the "Who" part....but the rest is amazing too. Don't change a thing, it's perfect! So does this mean that the CD is ready...???

....now where's that Chameleon guy....???

Joey :):):):)

An extended version of the School of Gerg!
I liked it ALLLLLLLL.
C'mon would have to go IF it were serious - BUT, it's perfect for this & it's point is perfectly pointless in a pointed world of pointlessness if I may be permitted to make that point.
The sole point being Rocking out, making music & enjoying doing it.
Greg, I like the bass - I can hear it & the bass drumm quite nicely in my cans.
Guitars are stellar as usual - I am disappointed that you didn't expand on the brief moment of Bostonness though - well not really but I had to say something in the form of a constructive critique to maintain my credibility as gormless cumudgeon.
Yes, downloaded is best!
Thanks.

Lol. Thanks a lot Joey. No, the CD is still not ready. I've had a revelation and I'm remixing the album one last time. This is gonna be it. I know it. I also know that it's silly to think about the 2nd CD before the first one is even out, but that's just how my shit works. :D

Thanks Ray. Yes, this is just a celebration of rock and roll. Simple, campy, cheesey, and fun. The "C'mon" isn't totally pointless. Not entirely. Sure, it's not necessary and sounds like dumb filler, but in my mind, it's a shout out to the days of old - Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent, The MC5, The Stooges, etc. Those guys/bands used C'mon with reckless abandon. Whether it comes through to the listener or not, each piece of this silly song means something. :D

Nice!

You're not signed yet? You should be.

Sounds great to me, but I'm kinda going deaf in my right ear....not from your song, but because I'm a dumb drummer.:o

I give it two thumbs up. A most ambitious piece. Musically very impressive. A high energy stage show could easily add this one and have it come off well - and have the crowd groovin'. It sounds like you've really worked on this piece and I think it came out great!

You shoulda used hearing protection. Thanks for checking it out. :D

Thanks a lot Ido. :D

Nice tune! I like how the guitars come in after the mellow intro part.

I've listened to this more than a few times now.

You know what? Sonically, I can't fault it at all. Everything sounds pretty much bang on to me. Guitars sound great (solos all good), bass is great, drums are great. Piano seems a bit dull but that might just be "to taste" blah blah. Everything is so subjective. But really it's pretty bang on in the mix. To me. Really dig the fast bit 6:18-6:32, sounds perfect.

But, and I guess this is a big but, the vocal performance needs some zazz. It's so close to being awesome, but I really think the vocals are letting it down. Not the words, not the notes, not the tone (all good) but it's the delivery... it's boring. It almost sounds like you're trying to get it right rather than get it kickass.

Listen to all the best vocalists, and they throw away the "perfectness" for the performance. Your vocal line is perfect (well, perfect enough), but it's not a performance. It needs more emotion.

What I'd like to hear is a slightly drunk version, or a version where you really channel the spirit of Andrew WK, and bring the party. It's a pretty awesome party song, but to me, it doesn't sound like you're having an AWESOME TIME. It sounds like you're having an alright time, but you need to bump it up to AWESOME. You don't need to sing all the notes or words perfectly, but you do need to have a good time.

I know it's 9:30 or so but the vocals should slam all the way through. I know you say "I wanna rock, I wanna roll" - but as it stands, I don't believe you. I need to hear your fist pumping through the air; I need to hear it in your voice. I need you to make ME want to have a good time as well.

That is my only issue with this song being totally kickass. I don't mind if you never change it and are 100% happy with it as is, but I'm not going to party with you until you make me want to.

Cool, I like the geetar at 5:18, For those About to Rock? :)

Forget my first post. This sounds great.

I listened in my newly treated room and there are no problems. The cymbals still have some phasing to my ears but everything else is right on.

Vox came thru loud and clear.

Jammed along a bit too. Nice use of the Sweet Home Alabama chords.

I need new headphones.

Lol. Maybe I don't want to party with you. :D

I get what you're saying, but there's nothing I can do about it. I'm not a singer. I just belt out whatever crappy lyrics I write down and hope it's in key. It is what it is. Thanks for the in-depth comments. I do appreciate it.

Lol. I don't know if that's the right progression, but yeah, AC/DC was the main idea behind that lick.

Thanks again. I don't know what I can do about the cymbals. My overheads are not out of phase, but sometimes the cymbals sound a little washy. I've tried different setups, my room is way treated, and it's always the same. It's probably the mics, or the fact that my cymbals were bought with loud, live performances in mind. They're all pretty heavy-duty.

Haha sorry I just re-read that, I was a bit drunk at the keyboard last night. There's nothing wrong with your vocals, for someone who "isn't" a singer you are doing a suspiciously good job at singing. I actually really like the guitar work too. Hearing it today at work (sober haha), I actually think my headphones at home are a bit screwed, my freaking ipod buds here sound better(!! and no I wasn't that drunk:p)...I guess xmas is around the corner.

How about some gang "whoa-oh" vocals at the end chorus or something? Too cliched?

No, nothing is too cliche for this song. I'll go back one of these days and add more to it. For right now, I need to get away from it. Thanks for checking it out again. :D

Wow man, you went all out on this one. I'll admit, I haven't gotten through the whole thing yet. sorry!! lol.

All sounds good. Kind of raps up the whole history of rock into one song. yep, that would take about 9 minutes!! :D

Very cool. I'll finish listening to it now.

peace,

Wow! Great musicianship accompanied by a display of aptitude in varying genre's! Very, very impressive Greg. I really enjoy listening to your stuff! Keep it coming, and again just... wow! :)
