I've been lurking here, PWS and GS, I am in for this buy and decided it was time to comment.

Randy and Chance, THANK YOU!!!!!

My suggestion is.......................

Everyone else, lets make this as easy as possible on these fine people. The cut off date, (13 Apr) is it. If Mic's are not ordered due to quantity then they, and ONLY they, can adjust their order. (If ya don't like the color or are bothered by the lack of reviews then simply don't pay for your order)

7 days after the 13 Apr cut off (20 Apr) is the change order cut off date for those who had to adjust for non ordered Mic's and ONLY those unfortunate people.

13 days after the 13 April cut off date (26 April a Friday / business day) is "pay or don't play" cut off so Chance can order and pay for the gear we have been given the PRIVILEGE to buy at such an extraordinary price.

On the day the order is sent and paid for, a Countdown To Christmas clock go's up on Chances site and we all just patiently wait for our surprise. Could be early, could be late, could sound amazing or just plain great. Whatever!!

Any more Fly's in the ointment from those who "Just want to hear a review / need re-assurance to make sure" are only holding up the gear for those of us who understand and accept the situation for what it is: "The best opportunity around for affordable quality gear WELL below the price point we usually shop at."

I don't mean to be blunt but it really is easy to make this easy. If ya wanna flame me cause I ruffled yer feathers I could give a Rats A*s, make it creative, I enjoy a good insult.

Again THANK YOU Randy for all your efforts to make it easy and supply information to us and Chance. BTW wheres the "Give Randy a Buck Button" its the least I could do.

THANK YOU Chance for what your doing, because of your efforts I get to make my studio a step or so better even though I have a wife, ex wife, kids and a mortgage. Thank goodness for people like you, please reconsider your tip decision, I gotta buck fer you too:-)

To anyone who has issues with color (give it a Chance, pun intended) or the possible $25 price difference to entice you to participate or any other "issue" PLEASE give the organizers and the rest of us a break. The trains leaving the station, hop on board, you are most certainly welcome. If you don't wanna hop on board, no harm no foul but PLEASE, quit puttin logs on the track!!!!!

Steve

(and the flame begins) :D

I agree totally. Risk/Reward. Time to sh*t or get off the pot.
Strict deadlines = No waffling.

Chance & Randy,

Just read the update on the user console. I thought you would need to have the orders processed with payment fairly soon to be sure of your numbers for China.

My only concern is that the ACM-200 would not have enough qty and I'd have to choose another mic. Will there be a way to know before payment if that is the case?

Thanks guys!

Earl

Yes, there will.

The reason that the update is on the User Console right now, and not in a mass email, is that I'm still having the same troubles with my mail server as the last time... The MS patches didn't seem to work.. Still working on it... I thought I'd post it in the User Console anyways... Expect a mass email as soon as I get this server straightened out... I've never had so much trouble with one server before...never...

I am not an expert, and am frequently not too observant, but that doesn't look like a Neve clone to me, if that is indeed the preamp in question. More like an "inspired by" design.

There's a few transistors on the pre board and each EQ board, but also an opamp on each. I assume the little circle things on the EQ boards are toroidal inductors, looks like they have a few taps. I don't recall the Carnhills used in the prodigy-pro Neve clone project looking like that, could be wrong though.

The PSU section looks fairly standard, but I wonder what the power transistor at the output is for? Exactly what does this need to drive that hard? Maybe the output transformer is step-up?

Anyway, the boys at prodigy-pro should know all that well enough to recommend mods. I just know enough to raise the questions . . .

Some nice people are having trouble with registration

edit: Some very interesting info there ( link above )!

Holy crap! This is a little disconcerting to know we are paying for machining that (aparently) will be used to push out a billion more of these things for everyone else. Also a little lame that we won't be getting a unique piece of gear, but rather, something that will be rebranded over and over again in the near future. I thought they had told Chance they wouldn't be rebranding these.... maybe I misread. Granted, the schematic isn't exactly original, but at least they could LOOK different.... sheesh....

Interesting indeed!

Jon, I think Chance said that it was an "inspired by" design rather than an exact clone. I believe his A&H console has a N inspired pre-amp section, and thats what it was based on - at least from what I've read thats what my impression was.

However, the it does look pretty similar to the linked pre! Especially since Chance said they only do brushed blue aluminum faceplates.. ahem!

Chris - I know the feeling, its a bit of a shame that these will possibly be all over the place from various people soon. However, the advantage to that is that there will be more people that will try mods on them, so maybe theres *more* chance of people finding some really nice mods..

Still looking forward to them...
Gareth

I´d guess the opamps are for OL-leds and like.
Here is a pic from the same forum, a DIY 2 channel 73
pre without EQ , Carnhills used -only one input trafo / amp as
this has no line inputs

Hmm, OK, everybody's using the power transistors. It's possible the opamps are driving LEDs, but there also looks to be a comparator or something 14-pin sized over on the right. Would each EQ section use a LED? Haven't seen that before, usually just the multi-LED meter. And I think the pre section is a few discrete transistors short of the Neve design, but that part of the picture is kinda blurry and I can't really tell.

Edit: are those Carnhills too tall to stand up in a 1u case? Is that why they were done point-to-point? That's some nice wiring--a lot of work, but I guess less than the original!

It would be nice to see a Ch.....n, those lizard preamps
opened.

Anyways I´m happy so far ;)

The 8 pin DIP's aren't necessarily op-amps (though likely are), and the "power transistor" is probably a voltage regulator in a TO3 case (LM317, LM340 or the like).

Anyway, it certainly "looks" well worth the price to me.

It is a transistor at the output stage

You can see what is probably the typical LM79xx/78xx or similar in TO220s on the PSU board. I suppose the output transistor and transformer arrangement is a clever way to get lots of headroom although likely not terribly efficient. It's just bigger than what I thought was the in original. With a heatsink of that size, it's got to be capable of dissipating a few watts. Maybe an interesting mod would be to directly tap it for a power output!

I would tend to agree that the parts are worth the cost, especially for those happy with the stock. The question about the Carnhill size is for the modders; since by the looks of that case, it's all taken up by PCBs, the Carnhill would have to sit on it side (as in the DIY version) and be wired point-to-point. That is neither surprising nor especially difficult, so long as there's enough clearance inside the case.

3 copies here, also

...And raised my order

Matti

Hummm.... I know why there were 3 copies sent, but I had no idea it would cause a raise in your order...;)

Maybe the next mass email, I'll send out an additional 2 copies and see if we can get the quantities up a bit! :D

Really, it was my fault there were 3 copies sent... I was doing some testing and 3 copies got sent.. just delete any 2 of them you don't wanna keep...;)
