what a well written song Gerry :) i love it :) well done.

it's got a nice smooth groove that goes well with Christmas time, and the sentiment is beautiful.

i think the drums could come down a bit. and i think the strummed electric that's back a bit could be done with an acoustic to greater effect.

Thanks Nicole - I appreciate the kind words. :) I will look into the drum level this weekend. This was one of my early attempts at adding keyboards which was kind of fun too.

Once again, well done...you know there's a big market for that kind of stuff. Seriously, I'd shop a few Christmas tunes around to retail outlets and what not for them to play during the season.

Mixwise, the only thing that really stood out to me was the snare. Although it's a great sound, I think it's just a tad loud for the mood of the song. Maybe back it down a couple of db's or see what you can do to take some bite out of it.

Good job, and I'll be listing for the Christmas compilation next year as I do my shopping!!

Brad

This is a really neat song. The tune is really nice. The Christmas songs are really cool. :) Don't see anything wrong. The solo is really nice.

Is it just imagination or are you playing softer these days. Almost no dist. :) Nothing wrong, just observation.

Sounds really good. You have a sort-of Clapton thing going on with your vocals, I like it.

Thanks BigBubba and Danny.Guitar...

Okay - I've just uploaded a new version of the unorchestrated version that I've been working on. I turned the drums down a bit as per Nicole's suggestion. It took me a while to get a copy without any crackles in it (only 6 mixdowns before I got a clean one. dirty power I guess...:D

Thanks David - I love the orchestrated version...it's sounds excellent! :D
I would dig a .wav - can you send me a USENDIT .wav version? :D

So the links are here to enjoy:
Not Only When It's Christmas - First Version

Not Only When It's Christmas - David K Orchestration

:D:):D:)

the drums feel better to me now :)

and Davidk's version was just as sweet as yours :) but i think it's your voice that does it for me on this Gerry :)

again, well done :)

Thanks Nicole - I was wondering if the drums were low enough...I'm still working on my mixing skills so I appreciate the feedback... :D

I really like the added Christmas vibe on David's version.....

Gerry,
There's a problem! If you'd had this up & ready 3 months ago SOMEONE WOULD'VE RELEASED IT!
Sweet sentiment, sweet melody & SAWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETly done.
David,
Very interesting to hear you scratch arrangement - amongst the obvious xmas prereq's you've added some lovely flourishes and snips of countermelody. You arrange very bloody well indeed. Oh, genreally nice samples etc & good playing.
If I were a punter I'd get the single with both versions - the David K arranged is so obviously seasonally right on the money. The unadorned version will last through the year as a song & melody until the season beckonds & I'd pull out the orchestraed version again.
I bummed - I've made my annual Xmas CD (this year with a prog/psych theme) for the folk I work with, (using trad & pop tracks alike & breaching copyright no doubt), but these two versions would trump every track on the disc@!!@!

Thanks Ray - I really do appreciate the kind words.... :)

I've uploaded a new orchestrated version. It's built from the latest base track and David's orchestration track that he sent me. It was good practice lining up and blending tracks in Cakewalk. If you get a chance to listen to it let me know how the balance is. :)
