You should buy that e609 that someone had for sale over the classified section. I bet he would give you a good deal.:D

Great mic (I have one), but maybe a little too boxy to place out of the way and get a good sound. Hmm, maybe I should try it myself and see what happens. Gimme a few days, though......

Here is a rough mix (no EQ or anything) of a tune my band is fleshing out... i5 on snare, cabs, rack tom if that gives you any sort of idea.

We'll, since were pimpin drum samples, I'll throw one up of my suggestion. Although samples are all but meaningless since the snare mic makes only a very small part of the overall sound.

Here is some all-but-raw drums with the setup I listed above-

Thats a nice and clean mix, what kind of gear are you using there (ex. amp, pre? so on)

whoa those hi hats sound really loud! i like the kick alot, good thump. how do those sound in a mix

Don't know. I have only tracked the drums. The hats are pretty loud in that spot, but they are supposed to be. I'll change the part of the song and post another clip. I was posting for the snare sound mainly......

edit - new clip (same song) - http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=8862

edit2 - That's not even the hihat thats loud. He's riding the crash on the left side. Hihat is on the right. Doh! :D

edit3 - A new clip - drums in a mix! (a very rough mix - still tracking) http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=8863

Ok, this is a quick sample of the song I am working on now. The drums are 5 mics, one kick, one snare underneath (GT convertible), two overheads and a room mic. I muted the snare mic (which is turned loud as hell) about 3/4 way into the sample to show what it sounds like without it. There is minor compression on the drums and everything is a scratch at this point. It may not be the sound for everyone but I like it.

HA and i call myself a drummer. i dont know how i conduct myself.

those are some good sounding drums! i like the snare in the "very rough mix" alot. sounds like everything was recorded really well... always expected with you dude.

hang on im gonna go render out what im getting and post it. its not to pretty

I added a short sample of the snare alone, no effects.

i just cant fall in love with the bottom of the snare, although it sounds like you captured it well. i want a really tight sounding snare drum and maybe recording the bottom and turning it down alot would help me when trying to get that sound.

That's the thing. For me I get a pretty good body sound from the snare n the room but I need a little snap of the actual snares. The GT works better than my 57 or 421 or my 414 for the top of the snare as well, at least for my tastes. Less to eq most times. I will post a top side sample if you want.

Ok i guess my snare isnt as bad as i thought it was, im listenign through headphones and i kinda like it, but alot of stuff has been done to it.

I did some pretty desperate stuff to it.

I duplicated the track, applied a nosie gate to one and alot of compression to the other and mixed to liking, then assigned both to a bus and put some EQ on the bus and i think more compression. but it came out prettty cool.

I put it so the snare is solo, then the drums are all you hear, then the whole "mix" at this point the song is not done so its not all mixed yet ethier. take a listen tell me what you think

what i dont like about my snare is during the louder parts of the song, the drummer hit the snare louder and the over song volume is higher too and all you end up hearing is the attack of the snare.

hell, bruce swedien said a few days ago on gearslutz that he built a baffle that physically sticks between the snare and hat to reduce bleed

you could even modify an old windscreen gooseneck, wow... i gotta go..be back when it's done.

That is an issue that needs taken up with the drummer. No mic will magically make the snare quieter.
