Help me soundproof a townhouse room!!

I'm moving into a townhouse in a few weeks and I play guitar and drums so I need to soundproof an area so the neighbors don't kill me. I'd like to keep it kind of cheap and I can't tear down walls or anything because I'm renting it. What is the best way to go about this?? Also would it be possible to section off part of a room and do this without putting up walls??

Thanks a lot

Unfortunately, the best way to soundproof is to build a room within a room, with floating floor and double/triple walls. Soundproofing is laberous and expensive.

There really is no way to section off a room for drums without building a wall that is totally sealed.

Here are some good articles on soundproofing and acoustics.

It would probably be cheaper to rent a room elsewhere or maybe use triggered midi drums.

Unless you're prepared to build something permanent in your townhome, I don't know if there's much you could do.
you could probably add resilient channels and another layer of drywall, it probably wouldn't be too expensive, but is a significant addition to your townhome. Auralex makes SheetBloc, which you could use like wallpaper ... but that's kind of expensive. Other than that ... umm ... caulk everything really good.
How big is the room your in? Is it possible to make a separate iso-booth (like the whisperroom stuff) out of drywall or something? that might be easier, although I don't know how effective it would be ...
How about this? ... ever thought about getting an electric kit? ;)
