Digi-design Digi 002! Need Serious Help

Hey Yall, "sorry redneck"
Question about the Digi002 Console not rack...

What is the best way to run the gain of the four preamp controlls for drums..
Like what level for kick,
Overhead, snare, ect..

I always get fustrated about where to set gains that go into the comp... Im just running my mics into the board..

My mics are
Snare- SM57
KICK- Senheiser -e603
2 overheads AKG C2000B
and 1 MXL v63M behind the kit for a room mic. Any advise for gain settings on 002 console.
 
For starters, try to adjust all of the gains for each mic so you get the "highest" signal level without clipping on the loudest portions.

Have your drummer hit each drum at the hardest he will hit it during the tracking of the song. Do each drum one at a time and then add them all together. Recheck everything because the added signal from the rest of the drums will increase the sound level going into each mic.

Once you are satisfied that you will not get any clipping or distortion from the pres or the mics you could add a LITTLE compresion to the track and you're ready to record......good luck.
 
I usualy set the gain to about two thirds up the bar to give me some headroom and compress post recording, been working well so far.
