Voice effects

I was wondering if anyone knows of software for voice effects,like to make vocals sound more different,I have cool edit 2000 but all the effects seem to just make my voice sound the same just echoed or distored and its not what I'm looking to do I want to change my voice all most to a completely different voice,I don't know if that makes any sense but if you know of anything to do something like that please tell me.

Look into vocoders. Also there's Antares Autotune which if you push it will seriously alter your voice without having to modulate it with another sound file. There's also a cheaper, similar sw package called Voice Tweaker. See http://www.thedirectxfiles.com/

Does cool edit have compression?? I think some compression helps make vocals a bit fatter sounding.
