Set Up for Hip Hop /R&B Production

Hey I am interested in building a home studio for hip-hop and R&B production. I already have a home network with 2 PCs connected. I read somewhere that I should get another computer and connect it to the network and use it strictly for music. Any suggestions on equipment and software ? I heard if I go Digital for R&B and Hip Hop I need a computer with alot of storage space, software, a great sound card and mics ? Is this true? Can someone give me a sample set-up?

Studio for R&B/Hip Hop

Do not add a computer to the 2 that are connected. Keep it seperate, so that you wont have any viruses introduced to your system (that's if you download, use the other two for games and such).

Though there are too many ways to start a set up I'll give option

COMPUTER ROUTE
Any Pentium IV will do : AMD
(2) HD, 1-for your software, 1-for storing audio
(everything else is up to you, if you want a CDR-W/DVD drive yadda yadda yadda)
Software: Cubase SX or LOGIC (your choice) & Reason 2.5
SoundModules : cheap ones JV1010 & Planet Phatt
Keyboard- Fatar Midi Controller
Soundcard for computer: Audiophile 2496
midi interface -MOTU MIDIMAN comes to mind

HARDWARE ROUTE
MPC 2000 - your sequencer, sampler (everyone uses it)
SoundModules - (same as above) you connect them via midi
Keyboard -- Fatar midi Controller
Phillips CD Recorder

BOTH SETUPS NEED
MICROPHONE -- to many to name, you figure it out
MICROPHONE PRE-AMP -- or if you get a mixer, use that
ANALOG MIXER (for HARDWARE SETUP) it's cheaper--MACKIE brand
STUDIO MONITORS - to many to name, you figure it out
AMPLIFIER - to many to name, you figure it out
CABLES - midi cables, 1/4 cables, XLR cables, 1/8 cable
MIC STAND & POP FILTER


This oughtta get you started, in all honesty a MAC COMPUTER would suite you better, if you want to start of correctly and right, but PC's are cool too. Good Luck


p.s. I have a Blue & White G3/450/192MB/CD-Rom for sale $250
with music software: Cubase 5, Peak 2.5 (no monitor though)
