quick panning question...

ethos

Swag Type Heavy
i have a Korg D1600.
i have panning channel 1 to the left, channel 2 to the right,
channel 3 to the left, channel 4 to the right and so on....

so it takes 2 channels to record one person on one mic.

im not sure why i have been doing it this way, my freind showed me how to use and thats how he did it, so i just thought it was common.

is it better to pan each channel right down the center,
so 1 mic, would take up 1 channel?
why or why not?

i realize this is a retarded question, hence the forum its in.

thanks to any responses.

I record everything straight down the center, and then pan it where it needs to be during mixdown.

I cant say ive ever recorded something panned fully to the left or right unless i intended it for surround sound. If you want to pan each track, then pan them slightly either left or right, i usually put them at about either 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock depending on which way you want it recorded.
