Monitor cables queries

I have been advised to buy "the heaviest speaker cable" I can, and use "the shortest length possible". Why is that so?

Heavier means there's more copper, dialectric, and sheathing, and is not necessarily an indicator of quality.

Shorter means less signal loss and less likely to act like antenna. Using balanced (3 wire) monitor cable should pretty much eliminate any noise induced externally.

3 wire speaker cable? Are we talking about speaker cable or line level cable?

Are your monitors active or passive?

My monitors will accept either balanced (3 wire) or unbalanced (2 wire) 1/4" phono plugs. They're powered monitors so we're talking line level signals.

I assumed he was talking about monitors, now that I read his post again I'm not so sure...
