Just two little questions about Melodyne 3.1 and Cubase 5

I've just learned how to use melodyne 3.1 on cubase. I've got a question. If I open my editor on an vocal track and I insert the effect "melodyne bridge", it opens together with Melodyne 3.1. Once it detects the audio wave I am not able to listen to the sounds when I edit them on Melodyne 3.1. But when I save the melodyne arrangement, close Cubase and re-open Melodyne only, it works perfectly and I can listen to all the sound when clicking on the notes. Is this normal? The second question is this: In order to work properly, does Melodyne have to export the audio file (that afterwards is going into Cubase) or there is a way to make it work directly into Cubase without exporting and importing? Thank you very much!
