Hissing noise

I'd sure appreciate a tip from anyone more experienced than I (beginner) at getting as clean as possible sound from my recording efforts.

Equipment:
Soundmax Digital Audio soundboard. Single input
Behringer UB802 mixer preamp
Sony ECM electret condenser mic
Cakewalk Music Creator

I get good recording levels with this setup, but recording quality is not as crisp as I'd expect, and there is a pronounced hiss, like bad tape hiss present all the time.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Ahhhh.. big subject. I'd suggest you read about "gain staging" with the search function above. The gear you're using is going to be touchy re noise so you need to maximize clarity with well handled gain staging. Like most aspects of audio, the subject of gain staging is an inch wide and a mile deep. ;)

ya think....

would the con mic be picking up interference from the computer while recording? if there in the same room obviously.

Where do you have everything plugged into for power? That can cause a lot of noise.

The Behringer Pre's are also known to be quite noisy.
