I saw that Apple has just come out with a suite of software for the mac called iLife. One being called Garage Band. It looks pretty basic, but will get someone up and recording in very little time. It has some amp modelers in the software. Information can be found at http://www.apple.com/ilife/ . Good news is that the entire package sells for $49. Not a bad deal for those on a budget.
