Editing CD Tracks

Aside from playing a CD track live into a program like Cool Edit Pro, is there a way to take a CD track (which I know must have been a WAV file to burn the original CD) and open it up in order to edit that WAV file? Does the WAV file format change once it is burned to the CD?

I just want to save the time that it takes to play the entire length of the file -- so, can it be "downloaded" from my CD-R ?

When you burn a wave file to CD, it goes from .wav to a .cda file....you can rip a track from a CD easily with the software that came with your burner or with Goldwave at www.goldwave.com ......it will bring it to your harddrive as a .wav file.....
