Hey
my band re-recorded at my drummers house because he got a new tom.
I have to show you one song (no vocals yet)
but tell me how good the mix is overall...
and if you could improve it....tell me how that would be great

The music is here
http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/mikhailmusic.htm
entitled "death is near" (first one on the page)

specs
Cakewalk Music Creator 2003
p4 2.4ghz
376 mb RAM
standard STock shitty soundcard (one in)
behringer mixer (small)
2 pg 48s
one sony radio shack mic

the drumset was
a Pearl Session Custom 6 piece
with Paiste Innovations and Sabians

Guitars-
Ibanez Ex360
Epiphone SG 300

Amps-
Crate MX120R
Marshall MG50DFX

since i have shit equipment...the drum track was only on one track

and yes..i know that the bass drum is boomy...my drummer for some reason isn't a typical metal drummer. He loves the boom instead of the plastic click..

anything would help guys....
and how good is this mixed? (for a 14 year old with like half a year experience)

thanks

wow man this is acutally pretty good for your gear. Still has kind of a live vibe but that will go away with doing more tracks and better mics + pres. Those will make all the difference in the world. I kinda like the kick like that. Its nice to hear some boom once in a while. Sounds like it was mixed well for what you had and stuff. I would suggest trying to get a some better pres and maybe a few mor mics and you should be set.

sounds good keep up the good work !

thanks lol
my birthday is in 2 weeks so im gettin new shit
Y^a^Y
maybe ill be known sumday for using the shittiest equipment at their best :)

hahahah... man nothin beat my cam corder into stereo tape deck setup. Good luck on the new gear man and if your goin to a store dont be afraid to make the salesmen work with you. I go into guitar satan and have them take me into their studio display room and just have them close the door and we just test shit out all day long. Cuz in the end its your money so ya. Plus i think sometimes they like it better than helping out other people on the floor. Hehe who wouldnt want to play with gear all day and get paid?

haha... i also dont like it when they try to sell me shitty stuff when they think i have no fuckin clue but thats business i suppose.

thanks.....
once i get my 1010lt if it can do what i want it to....(one track bass, snare, toms, left and right cymbs)
what can I do then to improve those songs to make em....
ehh studio sounding....

it sounds like you miked the guitar at a bit of a distance.
try bringing the mic closer for a more present sound.
it also helps to double the guitars and pan them in stereo for more beefiness.
not sure what you used on the cymbals but they sounded a little "clanky"
that could have to do with the mics you used to record them though.
also, a little gated reverb might sound cool on the snare to give it more power.
also the bass, i could feel it, but i couldnt really hear it.
maybe try boosting in the 700 to 800 hz region for more presence in that area.
