Jazz big band mix

Hey everyone,

Here's an old school assignment I did last year. My recording teacher supplied the raw tracks for the class to mix.

I decided to have another go at it...

Let me know what you think of it! The mp3 file was too big to be uploaded so I had to cut out the second half so it would fit.

It's a Horace Silver tune called Nica's Dream.

Wow, very different from the usual fare around here. Sounds pretty clean.
I don't know much about big band mixes but this one leans to the left, I think because you've got your drums over there. Maybe the bass too? Centralizing that stuff would give it a more modern symmetry.

Yeah I suppose i should've mentioned this was done live so there's bleed everywhere... makes things a little more difficult.

I hadn't noticed that it was leaning to the left; but now that you mention it it does sort of do that.

I love this tune. The mix sounds good to me. Maybe a slight bit of reverb over everything might improve it, but honestly it sounds almost perfect as is.
