Mastering audio for phone Hotline.

Anybody have any experience in preparing audio for a phone line? As of yet I am compressing it to shit as well as low and high passing to death...
Apparently All of the frequencies in your voice below 400 hertz and above 3,400 hertz are eliminated. Now whats the dynamic range...

I'd keep it clear, intelligible and sibilance free as possible. The lossy encoding will take care of any low and high pass filtering so I wouldn't be concerned with that. A lone vocal/narration is easy to get level so conservative compression/limiting to keep everything even and judicial eq to make sure it's natural sounding and not boxy, should do. gl
