i record on a laptop and the soundcard it came with. it makes electronic scratching noises and adds to my noise floor. am i better off buying a new laptop souncard? how much will that run me?

i think every stock sound card is gonna have a lot of hiss and noises. if you don't wan tot spend a lot of cash right now, look at getting a good de noiser

c9-2001, I've not found stock soundcards to be noisy or hissy in any significant way. Not as pristine as a "real" soundcard, sure, but certainly not so noisy that it's a problem.

skaltpunk, can you describe the "electronic scratching noises" you are experiencing? Are they like "clicks and pops?"

what cards... i've messed with so any different regular sound cards and when you record with them they have USUALLY a lot of floor noise, or crackle in the recordings. some sound really muddy while not having as much noise.

The onboard laptop soundcards suck.

They pick up noise from the Hardrives and Powersuppys.

Try un plugging and running from battries, that usually makes some of the noise go away.

Get a PC card soundcard.
