Strange problem (m-audio)

I recently made reformatted the harddrive and made a clean installation of WinXP and installed the latest m-audio drivers and now I have these strange crackling/popping noises when playing mp3's in winamp and windows mediaplayer. The strange thing is that this isn't an issue when using foobar for playback and sonar works just fine. Anyone know what the problem is?

I must admit to having had the same thing. Oddly, ASIO or WDM/KS programs were immune, even with a low Delta buffer setting. Good old MME programs like media players and CEP/Audition gave occasional clicks on playback or record. The odd thing is that MME or DirectSound are traditionally immune to this problem (at least in my experience). I ordered a Matrox G550 video card to replace an ATI Radeon. When it arrived, I also installed the then new .46 driver. The problem was solved, but having changed two things at once, I wasn't sure which fixed it.
Your experience suggests it was the graphics card!
