Sound dropouts while recording to disk

I'm finally recording acoustic guitar to Guitar Tracks 2 but my computer is experiencing dropouts. It is some CPU resource/application conflict. I suspect it is the networking software. I'm on Win98, mic preamp to Turtlebeach soundcard, recording to Guitar Tracks 2. My hard drive is on its own controller and is the only device.

Any books or web sites I can go to for more info and knowledge?

Drop Outs usually occure because you have your latency set to low. I use Sonar.. Guitar Tracks should be similar. Go Options -> Audio. If you are using WDM drivers, slide the latency slider to increase the latency. If you are using ASIO drivers, increase the buffer size on the card.
