Laptop for Recording and Live Performance

Ok, I tried looking this up through the search feature, but I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. Here's the deal, I'm looking for an affordable (I'm 16 and in high school) laptop to do my recording and live performance with. I play industrial and am a solo artist. I don't really care whether I use mac or pc, just whichever better suits what I need. I'll need all the usual stuff, the midi, the xlr and all that. I appreciate any help anyone will give. Please educate me.
 
have you considered and small rack mount computer.

I will be building one for my set up.

I know laptops/portable are great and compact. need at least the posabilaty of a firewire port or a expansion card some will allow that.

but when consider the power supply, external HD (for more space)
audio interface and maybe its power supply and all the cables etc.

every thing in a compact rack maybe easer and scaleable to your changing needs.

Sadly I don't know quite enough to be very specific. I can say that I would like to do the entire mix recording-wise on the computer. Then for live performance I would need it to play the drums and samples while I played the keyboards and sang. If there is a specific thing you're asking about I'll tell you what I know.
