Can anyone tell a guy how any of the "wildflowers" record by Tom Petty was recorded? That album is the most natural sounding records ever recorded. I do know that Rick Rubin prefers the band to be able to play the songs inside and out.
As far as I can tell it was all recorded to tape, and all tracked together as a band. If I remember correctly, it won a grammy for engineering. Just great musicians in a great room, being captured by talented people with great equipment. That's not much to aspire to.
