Tascam 388 head phone splitter

Hey I know you're not supposed to use a mono y cable with the tascam 388 but could you use one of those radio shack stereo 3 way splitters? I've used them with the smaller cassette porta studios with no problem wanted to ask here before I go ahead and try it.
 
If you were wondering if you can use a stereo 3 way splitter with the tascam 388. I tried it today works fine theoretically you could use two of them and have 6 headphones hooked up simultaneously through two of the 388s headphone jacks.

Just letting anyone who's curious know
