I really like that 34B because I can just sit down, record some acoustic guitar and vocal tracks, and it will be very inexpensive, and sound good too. BUT....

What happens when I want more tracks ....

So I think maybe the 38 would be better. A bit more expensive for tape, but then tracks are there when I need them. With the same trackwidth for quality.



So now what does the 38 feature other than the extra tracks. Cue? Is it MIDI inkable, and is the 34B midi linkable?
 
The 38 simply adds twice the tracks. Nothing more.

You will also loose the ability to plug in 1/4 inch Mic's as the 38 was designed to be used strictly with an external mixing console.

That doesn't really bother me.......in fact I really don't like the idea of onboard pres anyways.
