apologies - had something simular posted in the mic fourm when i decided to go out and buy it. maybe i can get a better awnser in this rack section
------------------

just recently bought the shure sm7 for my digidesign 002rack.... and clearly i dont have enough gain to power this thing, gain is nearly up all the way, still not loud enough , and there is noise in the background cause the gain is maxed out.

im on a tight budget right now, but can anybody recommend a preamp that will give me the juice that i need to power the sm7 ?

i heard the m-audio dmp3 might do the job ? anybody use the dmp3 with this mic ? how were the results? any mp3/wav samples?

thanks, and pardon my noobness.

SM7 and Pre-Amp

i'm using a Joe Meek VC1Q, no issues.
my 2488 pre's had enough gain too, but don't know what pre's are under the hood. haven't had the nerve to pop it open yet.

I'm usually use a Joemeek VC1Qcs too and, although that is not the only preamp I have with enough gain, they also seem to like eachother sonically.
