Recording Keyboard only

I'm new to all the modern "fangdangles" of midi, digital recording, etc. Any suggestions will be much appreciated! I have a ENSONIQ SQ-1 Keyboard (workstation). It has all the capabilities of recording, panning, mixing. . . everything but storing songs or sequences. I'm wanting to connect my keyboard to a disk drive for nothing other than saving (storing) my songs and sequences. I want to be able to play my own backup music, while playing live piano (and singing). I need to know what kind of disk drive, cables, or what all I will need to do this.

I know this is almost TOO elementary to ask, but all information you may give will be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks,

Elementary answer

If you want to record your music in a digital format, you can get a stand alone digital multitrack or if you already have a computer, you can get recording software and a quality digital audio PCI interface card.

The easiest way to do this is using your soundcards joystick port with a midi cable made for this. This cable also lets you use your Joystick.

You will need software like Cakewalk,Powertracks etc.

A 5400rpm drive will work but a 7200rpm drive is better. Make sure your computer meets the software requirements as far as Ram, Harddisk space and cpu speed. Also your Os. Win98/95 etc.
If the Keyboard is your only Midi Device, all the above should be more than adequate for your Midi needs.
As far as vocals, guitar or other instrutments you should get another soundcard thats more acceptable for recording than a normal soundcards inputs if you dont have one already.
