I had this condenser from way back and never got on with it on live vocal, but lookie here..
Folks in for a four piece live in the house, doing a 'comfy old style is the call. He gets a real nice (best/most usable I've come across so far) tone on his p/u, and last time in we used that and the RE20.
Both RE’s going to vocals this time so I did a little option scan' and remembered this one as ‘warm but with some edge. Did a few quick placement tests and put it about 4” out just to the side and a little below the fingerboard.
Normally I wouldn’t expect much at all out of a situation like this - vocal and guitar amp in the same room, ‘mic’ on bass. But so far sounds real promising (rough playbacks last night). He said ‘nice and not boomy’.
There’s two roll offs on the mic - ran it flat, but it also drops of (free field), so I guess it works about right at the four inches.
We’ll see how it pans out.
