Akg D112 or Audix D6 for bass drum.... looking for Chris Layton sound (SRV) kinda a punchy bass

I don't know the bass sound you're talking about, but if you want punchy, the Audix D6 is the way to go, IMO. Stick that mic 4 inches inside the hole, and you get what I envision as the archetypal kick drum sound, without any processing. I think it's a great mic.
