I don't get how you tailor a mic to have certian characteristics. Like How does one alter the frequencies? Do certain resistors only effect some frequencies or something? How does this work? Thanks!

Resistors usually have only a minimal effect in and of themselves. However, their role in filter circuits with capacitors (either by design of because of the capacitance of other materials) affects tone.

Also, there are the transformers, mic body, and of course the capsule itself.

And every other part used in the mic too ;)

Thats why they say Tuning the capsule or the capsule is tuned. Capsule and the transformer for sure but ultimately its the capsule, the other componants usually account for harshness or lack of tight bass for example thats why Mods are a good fix for a mic with a great capsule, changing the mechanical as well as electronic componants to a higher grade. Example the Oktava MK-219 is a mic with a great capsule and great transformer have it modified and u will see how amazing this mic can be. www.oktavamod.com
