No, it's not necessary. And even though I wasn't one of those that gave sarcastic advice, I would expect even a minimum effort of research on the part of the asker. Just off the top of my head I know the cheapest decent condensor is gonna cost more that $50. (Yes, that's right. I have an MXL 990 on top of my head! )

its amazing how fast money flies out the window with this stuff. i didn't start out with a plan in mind... one day i get a E-mu 0404 for my computer and the next thing I know i'm carrying home a $750 synth. now searching around and seeing prices for mics seems like chump change.

i'm actually in a similar boat though... i made another thread before having seen this one (talk about doing your research ) but i am looking for something in a cheap price range... up to $100.
