Anyone interested in forming a "purchasing" consortia for a microphone?

In my job I deal with a lot of consortia--institutions or individuals who get together to make a purchase of an item and are able to negotiate substantial discounts becasue they have multiple sales.

And it got me thinking, since I'm in the market for a SP TB-1...

If there are other HomeReccers out there also interested in purchasing a TB-1, we could join together and approach different vendors and seeing what kind of discounts we could get as a bulk purchase. For example, if 10 people reply saying that they'd be interested in buying a TB-1 if we could get it for a substantial discount, I could call different vendors to see what (if any) discounts they would offer based on the number of units we would be buying.

Anyone interested in trying this for a TB-1?

It might be worth the effort. The average retail markup on recording gear is only about 10-15% so there isn't much to work with. If you can get a manufacturer to bite it may be worth the trouble. It's pretty hard to find SP mics in local stores so Alan might be willing to swing a deal if he's not stepping on too many toes.
