Sondius XG SoftSynthesizer

Firstly, I'm new to this forum so go easy on me!!

I currently own a (oldish) Yamaha MU80 tone generator which is run by sequencing software on my PC.

I've just stumbled over this page for Yamaha's latest soft-synth:

http://www.yamaha.co.uk/xg/html/midplug/m_mid9.htm

I know very little of soft-synths.

In a word, can this replace my current tone generator? It appears to be available for a mere 64 dollars (compared to the cost my MU80, about 350 dollars approx).

I've just emptied my bank by ordering a new Pentium3 733Mhz/256Meg PC so I should have juice to run it if that's what it requires.

Thanks for any help on this,
Cazz.

It's a newer supposedly better synth for you regular sound card (Soundblaster type) in your computer. It's based on the Yamaha XG format (as opposed to the Roland GS and the industry standard GM standards). The gaming specialist web pages would have more on this technology. Try "Ask 3D Audio" web page and /or do a search. I have it on my new Hoontech Digital XG soundcard. "www.hoontech.com". Sorry I cant tell you more I just didn't have the time to read up on it.
