MIDI problem with Ion/Nord Lead 2 rack

Winner chicken dinner!
Okay this is probably an easy fix, but I can't seem to get the different parts on the nord lead to act correctly. If all the Parts A-D are set to midi channel 1 then they will all play at the same time even if the red lights aren't on. I have to set B-D to different midi channels and I can only mess with Part A, but I would like to layer sounds. Any suggestions? I am new to this midi stuff I never thought I'd get a rack synth but I just don't have enough room anymore for more full sized stuff until i can move into a new place.

Here are links to two good articles on midi basics - part one and part two. They may be a little too basic for you, but we can all use a refresher course now and then...

Your Nord is 'multitimbral', meaning it can play more than one sound at once. You can layer sounds A and B by setting them to the same midi channel and then setting C and D to two other midi channels - or to the same one if you want two layered sounds...
