Do you guys think a DMP3 or a Rane MSB-1 would be a good upgrade from the pre's in my FW410? The 410 has trouble powering a 57 without bringing in a good bit of noise and am curious as to whether it's time for an upgrade. The mics i have are SM57, MXL990, MXL993, and I'm about to purchase either an ADK Hamburg or MXL V69 ME. I'm doing a project this summer for school and a buddy of mine are going to be doing some acoustic type recordings. Kind of Uncle Tupelo or son volt type stuff with mainly acoustic rhythms with vocals and some electric guitars. Also which mic would be better? he has kind of a country, twangier, type voice with a good bit of nasal sound. I know this is a difficult question but any replies would be appreciated. I want to spend my money wisely and renting equipment is not an option.
