(8 Track) Based Mixing Console Buying Help

I'm building a small studio which will be based around my Fostex R8 and D90. I have only had experiance with behringer (preamps suck ass) and mackie (current) mixing desks but would like to upgrade from my VLZ Pro 1402. There are some niggling things with the mackie and these are the main reasons for wanting to upgrade;

6 mono channels (would like 8)
6 inserts (would like 8)
only has a single stereo bus (would like more flexability, but not too important)
Mute buttons don't illuminate when on
no sweepable midrange on the EQ
Small 60mm faders

The mackie preamps are surprisingly good so I would not like to buy another mixer and then find that the new mixers preamps suck. i don't have any outboard pre and certainly couldn't afford a batch of good ones.

Anyway to summerise, i'm looking for an 8 track, 8 insert mixer preferably with more than the one stereo bus. With mute buttons that illuminate and has a good usable eq section with 100mm faders. My head's absolutly fizzing at the moment because I've been looking at mixer upon mixer. The market is absolutly saturated with them. My budget is around £300. Help :confused:
