hey, i just got my maple 6x13 Tama snare slotted. there's a guy who lives by me who worked for orange county drums for 11 years. he's made drums for no doubt and foo fighters. my snare was single lugged, so we cut between the screws, sanded it down, and did a 60degree 2 ply sharp bearing edge on it. thats the kind of edge used on DW's. its now louded, and stays in tune better. we also re-sanded the snare bed, because it wasn't really even. he was also one of this first guys at orange county to do the vented snare, but the slotted gets more air out, so if you crank the top head, you'll get back the volume you lost when you cranked the head, and also gives it a fuller tone. i'm in love.
anyone have an old ludwig slotted snare or have had their snare slotted? much better than the vented.
