Your Very First - Let's See It!

King of the Wicker People
Dunno if this has been done yet, but while going through my old material I got an Idea for this thread:

Post the very first song you ever wrote... then below it, post your most recent... it'd be kinda cool to see where some of us started and ended up. Don't ya think? (Please include approximate dates... for time ref)

OK here's the first thing I ever wrote. It was a kinda Buddy Holly(ish) tune in the standerd G-C-D chord progression. (Is it just me? Or did we all start out as three chord wonders? -- referring to us guitarists of course)

Lonely Nights - 1984

There's nobody left in this world you can count on
You're cryin' inside but there's just no way out
You turn to your friends but they give you excuses
'cause they don't understand what your life's all about

Well life is so strange ever since he's been gone
Yeah he left you alone with your hopes and your dreams
You try to get by the best that you can
But it ain't as easy as you make it seem...

. You spend, lonely nights
. Listenin' to the radio
. Every song that you hear reminds you of him
. Now you're all alone
. Sittin' by the telephone
. Wonderin and hopin that tonight he'll give you a call

(musical interlude)

I'll always be here for you to lean on
I'll stay by your side and I will protect you
I give you my shoulder for you to cry on
I know what you're feelin' 'cause I've been there too

. I spent, lonely nights
. Listenin' to the radio
. Every song that I heard reminded me of her
. I was all alone
. Sittin' by the telephone
. Wonderin and a hopin' that tonight she'd give me a call

. You're spendin' , lonely nights
. Listenin' to the radio
. Every song that you hear reminds you of him
. Yeah you're all alone
. Sittin by the telephone....
. Come on baby now why don't you give me a call...

(Music to end)

I'm not going to post my latest just yet cause I'm right in the middle of making last minute changes and rebuffing it. I WILL post it later here though I promise!

Sung in dirty folk singer type of tone

We learned to make drugs from the holly trees
Hiding in swamp city at the age of seventeen
My blond hair girl my white trash dream
cigarette stains on her worn out jean

We saw some black girls wig
It was lying in the street
It was covered in ants that were feeding off the grease
in everglades city.
Driving through Immokalee
dirty magazines were blowing in the breeze
her dilated eyes she my yellow hair sleaze
they were making crystal meth from a stolen sack of feed
hiding from the law down in the southern keys
we found a good market on north Miami beach
hendry county nights we were shooting out the lights
and occasional stop signs.

But that’s all gone and I’m all alone in the Lake Wales sunrise
North bound 27 wasting all my time
My Ocala bad girls I got her on my mind
Getting the hell out of Gainesville
Ill meet you in Lakeland
I know a cheap hotel.

That was my first song ever here is my latest.....

Oh baby! Girl you know its true ohhh baby baby OOOOHHH Girl Girl Girl Baby OHHH OHHH OHHH

Cool... I like the first one... very descriptive.

I wrote my first song at age 6, and all I can remember now is verse 1 and the chorus:

Here Comes a Wave
by Aaron Cheney

(Verse 1)
Sitting on a log floating down the river...
Sitting on a log floating down the river...
Sitting on a log floating down the river...
Oops! here comes a wave.

(Chorus)
Here comes a wave
Here comes a wave
Here comes a wave
Here comes a wave.

music and lyrics by Aaron Cheney

Looking at it now, I clearly should have changed the rhyming structure, gotten to the hook sooner, and developed verse 2 a little more.

Oh well.

Yep, mine's recorded too. I did it when I was about 5 or 6.
Sadly, my songs haven't improved much. haha. Just kidding, I'm pretty good now. I just don't like to post precious lyrics of mine online, I'm leary enough stickin this masterpiece out there.

Hey Aaron! Our songs are similar. We should combine 'em!

There was a frog
sittin on a log
here comes a wave
here comes a wave
here comes a wave
here comes a wave
now the froggy is gone

The Eye Of The Hurricane

Well the wind carries a message
You listen with your skin
On the tip of your tongue’s a confession
That you’ll forget again
You wake up feeling sorrow
From a dream that won’t go away
And you dress yourself in tomorrow
Cause you can’t find a clean today

Making sense of what is senseless
Is a skill you must acquire
Don’t let ‘em know you’re defenseless
Make ‘em prove that you’re a liar
Love who you can and remember
The sun’s always shining somewhere
And ashes may still hold an ember
But you have to look for it there

BRIDGE
And the fire that you start
May be the one in your heart

I hear the stormy clouds thunder
I feel a drop on my face
I look at this tree and I wonder
Is this really the safest place?
If I sound like I know what I’m saying
Well, I heard it all from the rain
And that’s me you hear in there praying
In the eye of the hurricane

In the eye of the hurricane

Squibnicky Bananapants

Here's my first, written in my sophomore year of college....might be construed as a little raunchy, fyi.

sung in a southern bluesy rock voice with teles through twin reverbs.

Squibnicky Bananapants

words and music by Miles Baltrusaitis, 1997

Squibnicky was a barn of a man
Squibnicky likes to do who he can
Squibnicky’s getting tired of his hand
Squibnicky Bananapants
Squibnicky Bananapants

Penny passed him walking through the snow
On the streets of old Moscow
Now squib soon would come to know

Penelope Cameltoe
Penelope Cameltoe

They met and spoke
Over Goulash and bread
They slept and they woke
And they knew one day they’d both be wed

Solo over verse chords

So, young Squib got a job up mill
Penny serves the pitchers at the bar and grill
and now it won't be long until

young penelope's stomach fills
young penelope's stomach fills

Now…
Squib’s tale is one that should inspire
Little boys and girls to light their fire
You play your strat and I will play my squire

C’mon baby light my fire
C’mon baby light my fire
Try to set the night on fire.

Solo fade out.

Now, remember I didn't say it was any good.....

Tjohnston, very interesting song. I love this line......

Horsey Farm

In a little red barn
On our horsey farm

I have a dog named Keith
I forgot to feed him his beef

It's been three days and he's hungry now
Hurry! Feed Him! Holy Cow!

And if he's still alive
Feed him potatoes and chives

We'll keep him safe from harm
In the little red barn
On our horsey farm. Hey!

Amusingly, I still write, mostly, songs for children, so I worry if I compare them, they won't look all too different:(

Weeping Shadows

VI
What’s gonna happen when it all comes down
What’s gonna happen when there’s noone around
What’s gonna happen the sky’s always grey
What’s gonna happen at the end of the day

(Chorus)
Where will you be when the world finally dies
Where will you be and with who at your side
Where will you be when the time comes for sleeping
Where will you be when the shadows start weeping
Whoa--------------- weeping shadows

VII
What’s gonna happen to the few in control
What’s gonna happen will they loosen their hold
What’s gonna happen will they pay for their deeds
What’s gonna happen to the people in need.

(Chorus)
Where will you be when the world finally dies
Where will you be and with who at your side
Where will you be when the time comes for sleeping
Where will you be when the shadows start weeping
Whoa--------------- weeping shadows

(Bridge)
VIII
What’s gonna happen is the world near the end
What’s gonna happen is there time left to spend
What’s gonna happen should we enjoy what is left
What’s gonna happen is it all for the best

Whoa--------------- weeping shadows

dreaming you

when i close my eyes
it's you i see in the darkness
when i close my eyes
it's your face i see before me
thinking of you i see rows
rows of hope filled wishes
breathing you
dreaming you

thats all i can remember.

14 or 15 years old, mostly cool on the music side. All bass chords, no one in my area was doing anything cool on bass so i did.

still remember all of the bass part though.

newer song (ska)

Bob Green

bobs got a new chair
it's much better than his old chair
its got all sorts of levers
to help him with his work endeavors
he wont mind if you look at it
perhaps if your nice he'll let you sit

bob green
he is so clean
bob green
he is the king of the county

thats all I will bore you with. Bob green is a real dude who works for the county here. He is obessed with Elvis Presley. He has a way sweet pompador, wears elvis shirts and even wears blue suede shoes. Oh yeah and he skis with a full blown elvis costume on. Man-o-man I had to write him down.

ps-he really did get a new chair. Man it had like a thousand levers on it. I used to ride it around the building (i was the night dude for a while) while everyone yelled and laughed at me.

My first ever song was to a girl who I just starting dating at the time. I was on a solo camping trip and got inspired by our first date.

********************************************

All I Need Is You

I feel so good and warm today, I really don't know why.
The beauty of this mountain stream, the bright sun in my eyes.
But if all these things weren't here with me I know I won't feel blue
'Cause all I ever really need is you.

The beauty of God's lands and seas brings thoughts of you to mind.
I just open up my heart to feel the peace and love I find.
And I know that you're not here with me and still I don't feel blue
'Cause all I ever really need is you.

When the night has come to steal the day and darkness fills the sky.
When my senses feel the coldness and clouds begin to cry.
All these things I love are gone from me and still I don't feel blue
'Cause all I ever really need is you.

In my dreams I know,

That all I ever really need is you.

*******************************

My latest song is a tribute song to THAT SAME GIRL on our upcoming 25th wedding anniversary. I took the lyrics from a bunch of poems I wrote around the time of song #1:

Memories

I just can't seem to find the words and say what is on my mind.
To thank you for the things we share and treating me so kind
I'll always be right by your side and hold you through the night
and wake into another day in the warmth of your love light.

This night is very special; the dawn is coming fast.
The day will show a new time of dreams that grow and last.
So on this special evening the dream I hope you see
is a life of happy memories as those you've given me.

We'll always be together and build a future strong.
and everyone throughout the land will hear our happy song.
A life of nature's beauty, her birds out on the wing.
A life of cherished memories which only time can bring.

This night is very special; the dawn is coming fast.
The day will show a new time of dreams that grow and last.
So on this special evening the dream I hope you see
is a life of happy memories as those you've given me.

I wrote this while my then girlfriend(now wife), was gone for the summer. Very simple progression......just like the lyrics. Sung with a .......with a........I'm not sure what kind of voice this is sung in.....oh yeah...my voice.....which leaves a bit to be desired.
************************************
It’s so easy

Imagine you near me
What would you say
Don’t worry darling
Cause tomorrows another day

Hoping you hear it
When I call
Knowing you’ll see me
Just as I see you

Chorus:
Cause, it’s so easy
Not having you here
And, it’s so easy
Should be nothing to fear
But when you not around
It’s just easy to cry

Quarter to twelve
And I don’t wanna sleep
gotta work tomorrow
But that doesn’t compare

Chorus:

you can take my money
and you can take my house
you can take my arms
and my legs anyhow

Chorus:

And now here is my latest. Not much of a love song. It was written during one of my down weeks.
*******************************************
Just turn around

Anything you had to say
I listened to it all
Everything you took from me
Love to watch me crawl

Happiness can come and go
A day to day fight
Loving you was hard enough
Letting go feels so right

Chorus:
Just turn around, stare at the ground
What’s the point of watching me walk away
Just turn around, don’t make a sound
Cause I won’t be held by your
One-sided, narrow minded
Nothing left for me love

So many times you looked through me
To see your own reflection
So many days I’ve lost with you
Constant torture, rejection

Time goes by
A similar situation
Love is gone no playing games
You’ve lost your reputation

Chorus:

Bridge:
No second chance
No final meal
Your fate has been sealed

No second glance
No more lies
I don’t care how you feel

Chorus:

Y'all probably know I've written a couple of love songs for my wife.

Check HERE for the current version of the latest one - it's Jagular singing, not me. Second song on the page, "Beautiful Still".

Here's the first song I ever wrote for her, ca. 1988 - a little different. There IS a recording, but it's pretty lo-fi, and not on the net anywhere yet - just transferred it from tape a couple of weeks ago, gotta fix some EQ issues. Here are THOSE lyrics - you can have some fun counting the cliches:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Blues Again for Christmas

Chorus:
I got the blues again this Christmas,
I had em all week long,
I got the blues again this Christmas,
I had em all week long,
Coal in my stocking,
I musta done somebody wrong.

1:
Fat man down my chimney, I said,
"Santa, I ain't hung my stocking yet"
He said, "I ain't no Santa,
I'm here to repossess your TV set."

Chorus

2:
Was the night before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, man,
Not even a mouse;
So I turned to my wife in bed, and I said,
"Baby, let's raise some hell," she said,
"Roll back over stupid,
I'd rather do this all by myself."

Chorus

3:
Bad luck and trouble,
Right out of Santa's knapsack,
My Lionel electric train
blew up on the track;
Gave my wife a fur coat,
She wanted a Cadillac, she said
"I'll keep the coat, baby, but
Here's your wedding ring back!"

Chorus
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah, I know...

Daf

Daf... I love it... I'm kinda big into blues right now... please tell me you got that one recorded and up somewhere I can hear it?
