Every metronome I've ever used had the same problem - they all slow down during the chorus. I think it has something to do with battery drain.

Too true.

On the original question (so far as I understand it), if the problem is hearing the click in headphones over the sound of your kit, they do make super-isolation headphones for that purpose.

There are, I think, cheaper ones also. You could also try the sealed-ear type earbud 'phones.

Or -- the more traditional solution -- just turn the headphones up really, really loud. I think this ultimately makes all drummers go deaf, but unfortunately there's no way to tell.

You can wear earplugs and the headphones. That way you can turn the headphones up without hurting yourself.
