I love the shure SM-57.

One of my favorite mics for bass amps is the MD421, and I've had good results with the Rode NT3 also.

Agreed, recorded a band last week and the bassplayer said: what mic are you using, I love that 'pushing' sound. It was the 421.

I also have a NT3, kind of a super C1000 substitute! :D

Of course you have the right to remain silence, anything you say can and will hold against you on a microphone forum
Don't mistake me for someone who cares.

:D

I'm not intentionally trying to upset you... but I do take a lot of amusement from how SERIOUS this all gets over... a microphone... It's not like your sister has been violated, or anything important.

Of course your very expensive mics sound better than a $70 SM57. If it makes you feel better, the Neumann is even better than the MXL and NADY which cost even less than the SHURE.

bgavin, I know you don't wanna upset me, I'm here for fun you know? I really like your style.

Buddy, you must know I've worked my ass off for 45 years now, 6 or seven days a week, and many nights as well.
Today I worked from 7.45 am till 8.30 pm and I have to work tomorrow as well, sunday you know.

I started with nothing, my dad was a poor guy, the bank wouldn't give me a loan, so I worked.

Then comes a time you can buy a Neumann, and a couple of other nice toys. I have a 250 m2 (2750sq ft) studio and two houses next to it. And it all has been paid for. If I had to rent the place, I would have been bankrupt a long time ago. Nobody gave me any money, I've worked for it. This is how things work.

Today I get more $$ (euros in my case) in one hour than what I earned in a whole week back in 1965.

Funny? Yes, I love this job.

YES, they are that much better!

i own and like the e609, definately. but i found i liked the 57 on the snare better then the 609. but on a different day, or in the light of listening to it in an entire mix who knows.

We are in the same age group and working conditions. I own a computer business, not a studio. I checked your website... nice job, and a well done studio.

I think that the e604 is the one for the snare. The e609 Silver works great on the rack toms from what I hear though. I usually pick the e609 for electric guitar cabinet mic'ing. But I will pick up another e609 Silver so I can use them on a drumkit...You never know when you might need an extra! That is why I tend to have mics in pairs.:)

To everyone who is contributed to this thread,

As still somewhat of a newbie, this has been an extremely informative thread. I don't post a lot but I do read quite a bit and must say that you guys are giving us new guys different perspectives on things.

By the way, Han, your studio and recordings look/sound excellant. When you back up your opinions with stuff that sounds like that, you really gain credibility and your opinion is even more valued. At least by me.

Wel, thank you, I'm flattered. I do the best I can and if I can be of any help, I will with pleasure.

We ( a couple of band mates and me) are rebuilding/renovating the studio and today we did a lot of painting, which we hope to finish tomorrow. It's some 200 m2 ( 2200 sq ft) wall and ceiling.

Within a couple of weeks we will put some photo's on the website so you guys can see the new 90 m2 tracking room.

Thanks again for the kudos.

Peace, Han

Han, that's a pretty nice looking studio... who owns the beaufort studio?

Thanks, I'm the owner and I've built it with my own hands, with the help of a couple of friends sometimes, but mainly on my own.

The place was an old barn when I bought it. Wait a couple of weeks and I'll show you the new tracking room.

Peace.

Han, I think you've done a very nice job. Oh, and why don't you have all the mics you own listed on your web page?

I guess I'm just a little lazy on the website, actually I sold the C1000 and 3000's and got a couple of very nice sounding inexpensive chinese LDC's :D

My next mic purchase will be a pair of Josephsons and hopefully a couple of Sanken mics.

I think my son is going to make a new website anyway, he's the computer specialist.

It's about time you guys put something nice on my forumpage.

Peace.
