Fostex Reel to Reels

@kip4, i have thought of getting a 2 track. In all honesty that may be a better option right now, as it'd be cheaper and easier to find. Honestly, I'd just love to get started with tape, and I assumed that more tracks=more versatile. I'm on a very limited budget, so I just have to see what I can afford as time goes on.
 
A cassette Portastudio may be better choice at first. There is a "sound" of tape, but hey, I'm not going to get the same sound w/ 1/2" 16 track that you'd get with 2" 16 track, so I'm not altogether kidding myself. But, there is also a process to tape that is different, and the limited tracks has an impact on how you approach the process. Consider that the track width of a cassette four track is about the same as a 1/2" 16 track with a slower speed. (Although Tascam had an 8 track version as well.) Check out the threads here.
