Eq pedals?

This may be a silly question but, why did you buy an amp that sounds thin and lifeless? I can understand using an eq to enhance an already good sounding amp. But needing to use an eq just to get a good basic sound from the amp seems counterproductive.

I didn"t ..... I built a Tube preamp and it didn"t have any Tone controlls so I added an EQ instead ... without the EQ it has a sort of dirty blues sound and is one dimentional , not a Bad sound for what it is but I play hardcore and metal and need the Low and high end boost and mid cut ...... and the sound I get with the eq isn"t a Basic good sound it is a Totally screaming kick ass sound and versitile in so many ways ......

so basicly the EQ was a substitute for Tone controlls .....
