Can't afford Apogee A/D - next best thing?

The idea is that with the Apogee you wouldn't use the Aardvark in the signal chain.

I'll take the $200 I don't spend on the Aardvark and put it into a JoeMeek or a dBx preamp and consider myself better off for the deal.

You've got XLR and 1/4" inputs on the Apogee and Lucid stuff - just like an Aardvark - but instead of a controller card, they have lightpipe and/or SPDIF outputs that you plug into your existing soundcard. Gets the A/D out of your computer completely, and does it with higher quality converters - meaning less jitter, fewer errors, better sound.
