Building a New DAW - Sound Card?

I'm in the process of building a new DAW. I will be using Sonar 4.

Here is what I have spec'd out thus far:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz 6MB L2 Cache

FSB: 1333 MHz

RAM: 4 GB

40 GIG 7,200 Drive for OS (Win XP)

150 GB 10,0000 RPM Recording Drive

500 GB 7,200 RPM Storage Drive

DVD Burner

Floppy Drive

I have an Alesis QSR that Sonar will be controlling via MIDI. I plan on using my Peavy StudioMix via MIDI as well.

I'm a guitarist and I will be recording guitar instrumentals.

I want to record guitar parts in two ways:

1. Using a mike to record my tube amp

2. Directly from my Rocktron Chameleon preamp in stereo.

All the other instruments will be MIDI tracks from the QSR module. All total I should have about 10 or 12 tracks.

Here's my question: What shoul I use for a MIDI interface? What sound card should I use? Or should I get an audio interface? I've built PCs since 1986 but I don't know much about sound cards & audio interfaces.

Thanks!

If you want to go the cheap rout you can find usb to midi contraptions for cheap...after all it's just 1's and 0's

I would say skip on the soundcard and get you an interface either usb or firewire if you have it.
