    MD preamps

There's lots of MD recorders on the market, but only a few multitracks. I think the Yamaha MD4S 4-track has the most recent ATRAC version. I've only used my MD8, so I don't have any experience with other units. The link below may offer some help on other MD multitracks. I've done some acoustic...

yamaha md8. Are they any good

MD8s are easy to use. I use mine for demos, practice recording, concerts. Easy to rout signals to different tracks. You can record 1, 2, 4 & 8 tracks at once. Fewer tracks = more time on minidiscs. Can use recordable minidiscs (1 & 2 track) and data minidiscs (1, 2,4 & 8 track) Analog out only...

    minidisc recording

I think you need a preamp/mixer to boost the mic level signal to line level strength. A small mixer would allow you to balance the levels between vocal and guitar. You could try suspending the mic closer to you mouth and see how well it picks up your guitar and vocal.

Wow! This is popular! I also use MD!

I use my Yamaha MD8 w/ two AT MB4000C condenser mics to record concerts, practices and demos. I've done one full 8 track "studio" type recording that turned out ok for a first try.

    minidisc recording

Is the mic battery strong enough? Try replaceing the battery first and see what happens. According ot the specs on the mic, the AA battery has a 100 hour life in that mic. Or it may need a preamp to boost the signal. See if you can borrow or tryout a mixer or preamp at a store. Be sure to start...

Hissing with Marshall V67 and MD8

I tried the V67 with my Behringer MX1604A mixer and it worked great. Very little noise through the headphones and no noise through the Fostex PS3.1 monitors. I suspect a shakey tube in the Art Tube MP.

Hissing with Marshall V67 and MD8

I had the phantom power off on the MD8. I'm reluctant to use the MD8's phantom power due to the preamp problems of some of the older units. It definitely wasn't a buzz or hum. Would a LDC mic pickup household electrical noises from a furnace and register them as hissing or static? Could be a bad...

Hissing with Marshall V67 and MD8

I just got around to trying my Marshall V67 with my MD8. I'm running the mic with an XLR cable into an Art Tube MP for phantom power and then into the MD8 with a 1/4" cable. I tried an XLR but it distorted easily. I'm getting a good vocal through it but there's all this static like hissing thru...

If you're using minidisc, post a link to your music if you have one

BTW, I listened to few of your songs and thought they sounded excellent. I was listening through cheap headphones on my computer at work. I thought the instruments stood out from one another nicely. The vocal work seemed similar to ZZ Top's stuff. Very good playing and recordings.

If you're using minidisc, post a link to your music if you have one

I applied compression on mixdown to CD (Sony CDRW33) in various amounts. I recorded it last September. I forget exactly what I did. I did take some notes on settings and stuff. I'll have to dig that up to see exactly what I did. The nylon string guitar, keyboard (flute), bass, bongos were...

If you're using minidisc, post a link to your music if you have one

Here's a link to my first recording of a band I used to play with. http://artists.mp3s.com/artist_song/1152/1152431.html The song I recorded is called "Havre de Grace Song". The other song listed were recorded by others. I used a DBX 266XL compressor and reverb came from a Lexicon MPX-100...

    Marshall V67 at Mars Music

I'm going to put a red racing stripe on mine. I noticed on the Marshall website they don't list the black V67s. Maybe gold and green ones sell better. http://www.mxlmics.com/condens.html

    Marshall V67 at Mars Music

I bought a black one last week at Mars. The shock mount is the same one that fits the V57. Don't let them tell you they're out of shockmounts for the V67. It's used for both mics. Some of the sales people aren't aware of that.

    Gasoline Generators: How safe?

I'm going to be recording an outdoor concert in a field next month for a fundraiser. The power source witll be gasoline powered generators. Can these potentially damage my MD8? Do I need a UPS or line conditioner?

    Which CD Recorder ?

I use it to mixdown from an MD8 and do mostly occassional demo, live and practice recording. It is very easy to use. Has a remote that works with or with out a cable. I haven't used the limiting and EQ features yet. I've only had it for a few months. As far as the D/A A/D converters go, I...

    Which CD Recorder ?

I'm using the Sony CDRW-33. It has EQ, limiting and the Sony SBM. It also has optical in, digital in and out and analog in and out. I've only used the SBM feature which seems to give the recording a little more fullness and warmth

    about md8

It can be used as a mixer but it has just two XLR inputs. The sound isn't digital, it's stored on minidisc digitally. The output is analog, a very good quality analog. Generally speaking, Yamaha products are well made. I have no complaints about mine so far. I've heard of drive failures...
