Gasoline Generators: How safe?

I'm going to be recording an outdoor concert in a field next month for a fundraiser. The power source witll be gasoline powered generators. Can these potentially damage my MD8? Do I need a UPS or line conditioner?
 
I would use a line conditioner and a good surge protector. Voltage from a gas generator will vary greatly, and could potentially fry that little box!
