The video starts off by talking about audio features in Vista that are mostly for the general audio. About halfway through they discuss pro audio. Keep in mind that this is one and a half years old.
I was just reading a comment in this forum from another member:
That sounds silly to me. I'd like to hear comments from anyone who has actually used Vista to create music.
I've always avoided optical cables because the connectors don't make a tight fit and it seems like they would very easily come out of the jack. Now I'm considering getting a device that only has an optical connector. Is there some way to get a tight connection with an optical cable?
I just bought an external drive enclosure. I got one that does a good job of keeping the drive cool. I discovered that it does this by using a really noisy fan.
So now I'm looking for a quieter enclosure. Are fanless enclosures reliable?
I'm talking about the new USB version, not the PCI one. I saw this review

and it sounds pretty good.
You can see in the attachment that the waveform only crosses -6 on the bottom and not the top. At first I thought this was DC offset but it isn't. What is causing this? I'm digitizing a book on tape and the first 3 hours all looks like this.
I'm looking for a compressor/expander plugin that has threshold, ratio, gain, attack and release controls and nothing else. The ones I've seen have too many controls for me.
I bought a laptop thinking it would be a quiet solution for recording. But now I realize that plugging and unplugging all the devices I need is a big pain. So I'm wondering if a port replicator would be a good way to go.
I was ready to buy a Dell computer and then I read that they use proprietary parts and connectors. That has me wondering if getting a Dell is the way to go now. Anyone have any experience with replacing a fan or power supply in a Dell?
I know that Firewire is better than USB, but is the difference significant if you are only recording one track at a time? There seem to be people who are recording successfully with USB interfaces
I contacted M-Audio about problems I've been having with my FW410 on my laptop. They had me send them a list of the IRQs being used on my system. The guy pointed out that there are several devices sharing the same IRQ as the firewire port and suggested that I disable the devices that I'm not...
I've been having problems with my new Dell laptop and an M-Audio firewire interface. I was about to buy a fw card with the TI chipset and it turns out even that won't help. Read about it here:

I wouldn't normally call a Mac inexpensive. But are there any PCs that are as quiet as a Mac for a comparable cost? My Dell seemed pretty quiet when I first bought it but it is pretty noise now.
I have an program playing an mp3 through the spdif output. I have a synth hooked up to input 1 that I would like to route out to the spdif output also. How do I do that?
