    home-made fretless

I would love to- To be honest I haven't even searched the net(or eBay) for one. I just assumed that they are less popular, and more expensive than other basses- at my local guitar center out of all the basses there is only one fretless- a Warwick, which sounds amazing, but costs $800. I am...

    home-made fretless

What you should know, right off the bat, is that, first of all I don't even own a bass yet(I'm a guitar player who wants a fretless bass). Second of all, I will perform this procedure no matter how much advisory I get against doing it(All I wanted was something like- "use this kind of wood...

    home-made fretless

I played a fretless bass for the firs time a week ago and really liked the feel and tone that I could get out of it. It dawned on me that I could just take the frets off any bass and have a fretless- I even asked a bass player who said that this has been done; but I was just wondering how I...

Where do you place drum mics?

What I would like to know is, not so much what kind of mics to use, but, where to position them above the drums. I have never miced drums before. I have a basic idea, after studying pictures and videos from other bands' studio sessions, but knowledge is power. Thanks for anything.

I love soldering together my own cables

I, too, enjoy this. I would even go out of my way, and pay more, just to spite everyone, to make my own cables. I use Carol cable to make my insturment cables, it's better than Philmore, or whatever.

    Miking drums

None. Well...I have a sennheiser E835, but I'm not about to use it for micing drums . I don't even have drums to mic...I only wanted to know for reference purposes.

    Miking drums

Perhaps I know more things than everyone thinks I know ... What I don't know about is what microphones to use for what applications.

    Studio Headphones; wired or wireless

Ok, I read your thingy...sounds logical...but, still, what type of room(dimensions, e.g.) should be used for monitoring?

    A good mic for begginers?

I also say Sennheiser for a beginner on a budget. I got my Sennheiser E835 for $100 at Guitar Center, and it ended up working quite good(for a dynamic) for recording.

    Studio Headphones; wired or wireless

I've heard otherwise from different sources...if you can't afford a good set of monitors shouldn't a good set of headphones do the trick? Think about this- what if the room in which you would be putting the monitors has poor acoustics? Plus- headphones block out any outside sounds, so that you...

    Post your favorite production tricks!

what's that for? The most important thing to remember is to use things and equipment for purposes that are contrary to their intended use :D.

    Reel-to-reel multitrack recorders

Reel-to-reel offers some definite advantages over cassette multitracks; the ability to record at 38 cm/sec, for one; and as I look into it buying an old(er) reel-to-reel four track unit, I've found that it actually would not cost much more than a cassette unit, if not the same. So...I've set my...

How do I start my own record label?

You really don't need to sell a bunch, actually. Ever heard of college radio, weatherman? My local college station(KFSR 90.7 FM Fresno, CA) plays music by bands that have produced barely enough CDs to give to their friends and the DJ down at the station.

How do I start my own record label?

Starting a label is simple. Take me, for example. One day I simply decided that I was the exective producer for a record label called Orange Industry Recordings. Now, if I only had a recording studio... That's got to be how a lot of indie labels get started, though. One day you just decide that...

    Miking drums

Hi, I'm new here! I suppose that's obvious, though. Anyway, I was wondering about miking drums; specifically where to position the mics above the drums. What kind kind of mics should I use? And I only want to use 2, by the way. Not enough, you say? Joe Morello's drums on the album Time Out...
